Fall Anime 2012 Preview

My favorite anime season is here once more. Fall never fails to disappoint me with it’s interesting line-up.

Check out the complete list with the neregate anime chart!

Bakuman 3

  • Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance, School, Shounen
  • Producer: J.C. Staff
  • TV Station:  NHK-E
  • Director: Kasai Kenichi/Akitaya Noriaki
  • Writer: Yoshida Reiko
  • Will start in October 6, 2012
  • Number of episode: 25
Summary: Sequel to the Bakuman 2 series. Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi have come a long way since they started making manga in middle school, but trials still await them as they head towards their goal of getting an anime adaption for one of their manga. As they continue to grow as artists and as people, they will be faced with new friends, new rivals and new hurdles to overcome.
Thoughts: OMG. Yes this is one of the animes that made me love animes again. The first two seasons were the best. I’m sure this will not disappoint. I’m hoping this isn’t the last one though. I need four seasons of pure goodness to be satisfied.

Code: Breaker

  • Genre: Action, Comedy, School, Shounen, Super Power, Supernatural
  • Producer: Kinema Citrus
  • TV Station: MBS
  • Director: Irie Yasuhiro
  • Writer: Irie Yasuhiro
  • Will start in October 7, 2012
  • Number of episode: 13
Summary: Riding the bus one day, Sakurakouji Sakura looks out the window to see people being burned alive with a blue fire and a boy her age who’s unharmed and standing over the people. She comes back to the site the next day and there are no corpses or evidence of any kind of murder, just a small fire. She then goes to class to find there’s a new transfer student, Oogami Rei, who looks exactly like the boy she saw before and wears a black glove only on his left hand. Oogami is a Code Breaker, one who “does not exist”. He is a seemingly cold-blooded killer who follows the principle of “an eye for an eye”, to “use evil against evil”. Convinced that killing is not right, Sakurakouji sets out to stop him and penetrate his icy heart.
Thoughts: I just happen to chance upon this while searching for upcoming animes. The plot seemed interesting enough as it reminded me of Shakugan no Shana except it has darker tones. I was pretty excited for it until I saw some of the images. I’m sorry but the quality of the animation sucks for a good plot. Even with that disappointment aside, I’ll be sure to check it out. I hope the story will be as good as it promises because I can handle crappy art if that’s the case.

Kamisama Hajimemashita

  • Genre: Action, Fantasy, Romance
  • Producer: TMS Entertainment
  • TV Station: TV Tokyo
  • Director: Daichi Akitaro
  • Writer: TBA
  • Will start in October 2, 2012
  • Number of episode: Unknown
Summary: Nanami Momozono is alone and homeless after her dad skips town to evade his gambling debts and the debt collectors kick her out of her apartment. So when a man she’s just saved from a dog offers her his home, she jumps at the opportunity. But it turns out that his place is a shrine, and Nanami has unwittingly taken over his job as a local deity!  Nanami has all kinda of new responsibilities she doesn’t understand, dangers she’s unaware of, and a cranky ex-familiar who’s actually pretty hot.
Thoughts: I originally thought this would air on Winter. Well I got hooked to it because of the  supernatural factor. If you’ve been reading my past previews, you’ll notice I have a thing for  that aspect. Also, it sounds as your standard shoujo. As long as it doesn’t go over the top, this will do relatively well.

Little Busters

  • Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance, School
  • Producer: J.C. Staff
  • TV Station: Tokyo MX
  • Director: Yamakawa Yoshiki
  • Writer: Shimoda Michiru
  • Will start in October 7, 2012
  • Number of episode: 26
Summary: Riki was a child when his parents died, leaving him hopeless and depressed. What saved him was a group of four kids calling themselves the Little Busters. They took Riki out and played with him during his time of need. He really enjoyed being together with them, and his grief gradually faded away. Now in his second year of high school they still hang out, fight and live together, and enjoy their school life.
Thoughts: This was one of the highly anticipated animes since 2009! Being a Key fan, I knew this was a must-watch even without reading through the actual synopsis. I know there was a whole forum showing disappointment that JC Staff will be animating this instead of KyoAni. To be honest, it doesn’t matter because the fact is the anime is finally premiering should be a cause to celebrate.

Pyscho-Pass

  • Genre: Drama
  • Producer: Production I.G
  • TV Station: Fuji TV
  • Director: TBA
  • Writer: Urobuchi Gen
  • Will start in October 11, 2012
  • Number of episode: 11
Summary: The series takes place in the near future, when it is possible to instantaneously measure and quantify a person’s state of mind and personality. This information is recorded and processed, and the term “Psycho-Pass” refers to a standard used to measure an individual’s being. The story centers around the “enforcement officer” Shinya Kougami, who is tasked with managing crime in such a world.
Thoughts: Even before finding out that this was a Urobuchi Gen original, I was hooked to the noir and dramatic overtones it has to offer. Upon hearing,  Urobuchi-sensei will be penning this, I can’t help feel slightly crestfallen. His works are good but overrated to a whole different level. Well see if he can amaze me for once.

  • TV Station: Fuji TV

  • Will start in October 11, 2012

Summary: 2019, Divergence Ratio 1.048596. The near future, where a device popularly called the PokeCom, packaged with PhoneDroid OS, spreads, bringing the Augmented Reality world close to existence. Chuuoutanegashima High School’s Robot Research Club is in danger of losing its club status. Kaito Yashio, one of only two members, is only obsessed with robot fighting games, showing no interest in the Robo Club even in this situation. The reckless, useless club head, Akiho Senomiya, aims to complete a giant robot, struggling hard to avoid losing the club’s status. Then, one day, Kaito discovers the A.R. annotation that becomes the Kimishima Report. Written in that report is the indictment of someone named Kou Kimishima’s conspiracy involving the world.
Thoughts: This has some sort of connection to Steins; Gate‘s setting. While it took me awhile to love that anime, I still did. The production team has been consistently improving in getting my attention since the end of Chaos; Head. I’m lowering my expectations for now, but I’m hoping we’ll get another badass story like Steins; Gate.

Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World)

  • Genre: Sci-Fi, Supernatural
  • Producer: Aniplex, A-1 Pictures
  • TV Station: CS-Asahi
  • Director: Ishihama Masashi
  • Writer: Sago Masashi
  • Will start in September 28, 2012
  • Number of episode: Unknown
Summary: About one thousand years into the future, civilization has been retrograded and humans are living dispersed within small communities. People in this era have a psychic power called “Juryoku” which materializes things they imagine. In the absence of advanced scientific technology, people are using this power as a major source of energy. One day, a girl called Saki, along with her friends, finds a small archive robot outside the town. It records the ancient history of humans. It tells them that Juryoku was found in the 21st century and the discovery caused a world war between psychics and non-psychics. The psychics won this war and thus their reign of terror began. When the adults in town figure out that the children discovered this forbidden knowledge, they seal their Juryoku and exile them. Saki and the others end up in a forest where they meet a huge hairless bipedal mouse known as a “Bakenezumi” and get involved in a violent war the creatures are currently engaged in.
Thoughts: This was one of the last to be announced, yet the funny thing is that it’s one of the first to premiere. Anyway, I liked the apocalyptic vibes I get from this anime. Anything that is psychological will more or less be good.

Sukitte Ii Nayo

  • Genre: Romance, School, Shoujo
  • Producer: ZEXCS
  • TV Station: Tokyo MX/UHF
  • Director: Satou Takuya
  • Writer: Satou Takuya
  • Will start in October 7, 2012
  • Number of episode: 13
Summary: Mei Tachibana has spent her 16 years without a boyfriend or friends. One day, she injures the most popular boy in school, Yamato Kurosawa, due to a misunderstanding. For some reason though, it seems that he takes a liking to her and one-sidedly claims that they’re friends. Furthermore, he not only protects Mei from a stalker, but does so with a kiss?!!
Thoughts: It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a solid shoujo. Most “shoujos” nowadays give generic romance stories, either too cheezy or predictable. I’m hoping this will be as good as Kimi ni Todoke, whose story is reminiscent to true innocent first love feelings.

  • Producer: Bones
  • TV Station: MBS

Mahiro is contacted by Hakase Kusaribe, the leader of the Kusaribe clan who was left stranded on an unknown desert island by her followers, and agrees to help Hakase in exchange of her help to find out the culprit for the death of his family. Upon learining of his friend’s intentions, Yoshino joins him on his quest to stand against the Kusaribe clan who intends to awake the “Tree of Zetsuen” whose power can bring ruin to the entire world.
Thoughts: One of my crunchyroll buddies told me to look the crunchy news on it. It was very promising indeed. I have a thing for revenge tales. But this is no ordinary quest for revenge, since it is coupled with my other favorite devices such as psychological and magical. It has the complete package. If it delivers it right, this just might be the anime to enter my top 10.
