Blood Lad

  • Director: Miya Shigeyuki
  • Writer: Konuta Takeshi

Summary: Blood Lad follows Staz, a vampire that is obsessed with the human world, and Fuyumi, a human girl that was killed and turned into a ghost after wandering into the demon world. Staz promises to help Fuyumi regain her humanity by bringing her back to life.
Thoughts: This anime kept getting pushed back. Finally after a year, it’s going to premiere to an abbreviated 10 episodes. It’s still worth checking out because of several factors. For one, Brains Base is at the helm. Not to mention, strong performing seiyuus will be included in the cast. And as for the story, it’s a very interesting premise especially for a vampire-centered theme.

Danganropa: The Animation

  • Genre: Action, Mystery
  • Producer: Lerche
  • TV Station: MBS
  • Director: Kishi Seiji
  • Writer: Uezu Makoto
  • Will start in July 4, 2013
  • Number of episode: 13
Summary: A group of 15 elite high school students are gathered at a very special, high class high school. The school is presided over by a bear called Monokuma, and he explains to them that their graduation hinges around committing a murder.
Thoughts: I absolute love dark animes so this is going to my most anticipated anime for the season. It is reminiscent to Battle Royale, but since there’s going to be more time to develop the characters. I wonder how everything will unfold.

Genei wo Kakeru Taiyo

  • Genre: Magic
  • Producer: AIC
  • TV Station:
  • Director: Keizoku Kusakawa
  • Writer: Mitchiko Itou
  • Will start in July 6, 2013
  • Number of episode: 12
Summary: A story of girls who solve mysterious matters that occur in this world, using the mystical tarot cards that hold the power to read destinies.
Thoughts: It’s been awhile since I watched a magical girl series so I thought this might be worth trying. I’m getting Black Rock Shooter vibes, which is not necessarily a bad thing. I’m just hoping this anime can pull it off like Madoka… or just a notch below.

Gin no Saji: Silver Spoon

  • Genre: Comedy, Shounen, Slice of Life
  • Producer: A-1 Pictures
  • TV Station: NHK
  • Director: Ito Tomohiko
  • Writer: Kishimoto Taku
  • Will start in July 11, 2013
  • Number of episode: 11
Summary: Yugo Hachiken dreams of life separated from his family, so he takes the initiative by enrolling in an agriculture school. Raised as a city boy, he is forced to uncover the inconvenient truth about agricultural life.
Thoughts: An agriculture setting was quite refreshing so it seemed worth checking out. I later found out that the mangaka of hit Fullmetal Alchemist, Arakawa Hirumu was behind this so the expectations for this just rose.

Rozen Maiden (2013)

  • Genre: Action, Drama, Magic
  • Producer: Studio Deen
  • TV Station: TBS
  • Director: Hatakeyama Mamoru
  • Writer: Mochizuki Tomomi
  • Will start in July 4, 2013
  • Number of episode: 12
Summary: Continuation of the Rozen Maiden series.
Thoughts: It’s been awhile since the first two-cour season aired. I’m not a huge fan of the Rozen Maiden series but it has been entertaining, plus if a series didn’t piss me off or bore me to death, I would probably watch the sequel. This season is rather bleak so this anime is a warm welcome.

Uchouten Kazoku

  • Genre: Comedy, Fantasy
  • Producer: P.A. Works
  • TV Station: Tokyo MX
  • Director: Yoshihara Masayuki
  • Writer: Suga Shoutarou
  • Will start in July 7, 2013
  • Number of episode: 12
Summary: In Kyoto, there are three kinds of residents: humans, raccoon dogs, and tengu. While taking care of old tengu, fighting with other raccoon dogs, and playing with a psychic human girl, Yasaburou approaches the truth of his fathers death.
Thoughts: The drawing style and animal concept isn’t very desirable but it might be a symbolism for something greater. Learning the truth about a difficult circumstance isn’t easy. I wonder how PA Works would shed light to this. Who knows this might just be this season’s sleeper.
